Q:Why should I train grip/hand strength?

A:
The answer really depends on what kinds of athletic endeavors you are interested in. If you participate in Golf, Tennis, Baseball, Hockey, Lacrosse or any other sport that requires using your hands to control an implement to catch/throw/strike a ball or puck... the reason you should use train your hands is because it will increase the power and control that you have over your bat, racquet, stick, club or…

If you participate in sports Football, Wrestling, Rugby, Judo, Jiu-Jitsu or any other sport where you directly apply force with your hands on your opponents it will increase your functional strength against your opponents resulting in more tackles, more pins, more Ippons, more submissions and...

If you're a climber
the added hand strength will help you climb.

Q: How does grip/hand training increase functional strength?

A:
We've all heard the saying that a chain is only as strong as the weakest link. Well, when it comes to functional strength most times the weakest link is the grip/hands. If you don’t train you grip and you get strong in all other areas, it's like a racecar having skinny street tires, sure it might have 1000+ horse power at the engine but if it can't get any traction it’s not going to be fast. Without training your grip, just like the racecar, you won’t be able to apply all of your force where it counts. This is why racecars have huge wide tires and why we make grip training tools that will give you the kind of grip that will let you apply every ounce of strength that you have both in and out of the weight room.

Q: I have a weak grip/small hands can I really get a good grip if I train with the Vice Gripper?

A: Yes, almost anybody can get a very strong grip, if they train the right way. Setting both long term and short term goals. Having a good training routine and switching that routine up as needed. It is very possible to go from not being able to close the Vice Gripper at about a 100lbs to being able to close it at over 300lbs over time.

Q: Won't the knurling on the Vice Gripper hurt my hand?

A: After a few weeks of training your skin will get used to the knurling. At first it might seem very hard on your hands but overtime it won't bother you even at the hardest setting that you can close.
